Seidio Innocase Surface Case For Droid 2 Review

After dinner with the in-laws last night I'm still feeling so stuffed I don't feel like running around doing all the housework and errands I have to do. I feel like the best diet pills on the market couldn't make me feel like getting up off the couch, so I'm going to take advantage of this lazy time to review the Seidio Innocase Surface Case I ordered for Hubby's Droid 2.
I purchased this case as a birthday present for Hubby after he asked me to find him a cover for his Droid 2 that would be lightweight and yet functional at the same time. We've looked at a few cases, but none of them seemed to fit the bill. He wanted something that would be slim, fit snugly, and not interfere with the usage of the phone. He also wanted something with the soft touch coating, but he didn't want a case that would attract dust particles particularly because he is a carpenter. His case for his old phone was soft touch, and it attracted dust like crazy.
After doing a little research I decided to order the Seidio Innocase Surface Case For Droid 2 because it seemed to have all the features he wanted. The Amazon reviews were all great, and the Amazon listing stated "Thin and sleek case provides scratch protection without adding much bulk. Made from a high quality, lightweight, and durable polycarbonate plastic". Hubby has been using the Seidio Innocase Surface Case on his Droid 2 four days now, and we both love it. I'm thinking about replacing the cheap case I bought myself with one just like it. The soft touch coating does not attract dust particles, and he has had no problem sliding out the keyboard or moving widgets from screen to screen like has been the problem with other cases.  The case is very durable and has already protected the phone from clumsy fingers dropping it.

The case is definitely lightweight, and the weight difference with the case on is barely noticeable. In fact he forgot he even had the case on the phone after the first day.  This is definitely the lightest cover I have seen.

Also, the tabs are sturdy and hold well to the phone.  I’ve had to remove the case twice to take out his SD card, and I haven’t had any problem with tabs breaking off or bending.  It is actually very easy to remove the cover.  You don’t have to use a lot of force to pry it off as I’ve seen with other cases.  The cut outs to access the power, volume, camera buttons, as well as the headphone and charging ports are perfect.  There is ample room to access each.
I highly recommend spending the bit of extra cash to get the Seidio Innocase. It is definitely well worth it.

How My Netbook Improved My Life

I've been wanting a netbook for awhile now because I thought having one would make my life much easier. First of all I wouldn't have to repair my laptop that's seriously outdated anyway. I've had it tucked in a drawer for months needing repair, but I just haven't felt like doing it. I thought having a netbook would be much easier because it would be so much easier to carry with it's small size especially now that I'm lugging around a baby tucked in a car seat and a diaper bag everywhere I go!

Even though I've wanted one for awhile I had decided to put my purchase off until after the new year since we had so much other stuff to worry about with the baby and then the holidays coming up. Then I ended up in the hospital for 9 days laid up in bed bored out of my mind with nothing to do but watch tv and listen to the beeping of my monitors. I wasn't physically able to take care of my newborn, so Hubby was handling that while I was shooting off short little text and picture messages to Facebook and Twitter from my phone. That was the only contact I had with the online world, the only way to share my new baby girl with my online friends, and my only way to contact my bosses to let them know of my emergency hospital stay.

That's when we realized how much easier those 9 days could have been if I'd had my netbook already. I could have taken advantage of the free wifi in my room, and I couldn't have not only contacted everyone I needed to contact, but I could have even kept working from my hospital bed! I could probably say I would have been the only woman in history to go back to work within hours of delivering lol!

Hubby decided he was going to buy me one as my Christmas present, so I picked out the one I wanted, and he ordered it from Amazon on Black Friday. I decided I wanted the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook after reading numerous reviews on it. This one has meets all my spec requirements, and it has the 10.5 hour battery life. As it's setup out of the box I'm getting about 8 hours battery life, and that's to be expected since the battery life depends on the computer's power settings.

It arrived Monday, and it's so much more than I expected. I love it, and I'm so glad I chose this one. I'm quite impressed with it, I have to say it has made a world of difference already. For starters I moved my desktop pc back to the office where it belongs which got it out of the living room floor. I can now work on my Netbook in the living room without having to worry about trying to be close to the baby. I was also having to use our tv as my monitor in the living room, and now I can put a movie on for the baby while I work from my netbook. It keeps her occupied, and I get more accomplished. Yep, at 5 weeks she does watch the tv. She's got two movies that totally intrigue her.

Also now I'm not carrying around a huge stack of photos everywhere I go without the baby. Now I'm carrying my netbook, and I can just pop up a slideshow of photos at anytime. Oh yeah, and when the baby's with me the netbook slides perfectly in the outer pocket of the diaper bag.

The best part of all for me is the fact that I can now keep myself occupied at during those late night breastfeeding sessions. I can lay in bed with her, and I can keep myself occupied online so I don't fall asleep without having to turn the tv or lights on which disturb her and make it harder to put her back to bed. When I'm having trouble putting her to sleep I can load up the ambient sound mixer on the Johnson's Baby website, put my laptop near her crib, and let the white noise and various sounds put her to sleep. We've used that technique two nights now when she was fussy and didn't want to sleep!

I never thought a little 10" netbook would make my life so much easier, but it has.

Everglide S-500 Professional Headphones Review

Last week I received a pair of Everglide S-500 Professional Headphones for $14.99. I picked them up during the Woot Off a few weeks ago because they were going for the same price I've seen at Buy.com. I've seen them listed from $24.99-79.99 elsewhere.


Boy am I disappointed with these headphones. Let's start with the specs.

I do like the storage bag and the microphone. The clip on mic works perfectly, produces an excellent sound, and I haven't had any problems with it.

The headphones on the other hand aren't what I was hoping for. Thank goodness I only payed $14.99 for these, or I would be extremely unhappy. The sound quality is much less than I expected. In fact the cheap $5 off brand headphones I purchased from Walmart produce a much better quality. There's also a great deal of noise and crackling coming through these headphones that shouldn't be there. They definitely produce a poor sound quality, especially when it comes to music.

Another issue is the construction and materials. At first I thought these headphones looked like they were constructed pretty well and with good materials that would hold up to usage. Boy was I wrong. I used the headphone for about 2 hours to watch a movie. Hubby then used them today for about an hour to listen to music.

After 3 hours of use the cheap leather on the headband is already cracking.



I'm seriously disappointed with that, and I'm considering returning these to Woot just because of the leather. If it cracks after 3 hours of use, what are these headphones going to look like after a week of use?

If you're considering the Everglide S-500 Professional Headphones let me suggest that you spend a little more and choose something better. You won't be impressed with these at all. I should have saved my cash on these and used it to go ahead and pay more off my auto insurance this month.

Could Text Messaging Save Your Life?

Wow the texting conversation with my best friend took a very interesting turn. I was telling her about the medical id bracelet I've thought about buying my sister in law. She's a diabetic, and there have been quite a few times she had a medical emergency, but the paramedics didn't check her wallet to see her diabetic medical card thing she carries. It doesn't really help if they can't see it.

We started talking about technology and the way technology today has advanced medical services. Years ago I could have ordered a bracelet with a symbol on it that says that person is a diabetic, but today I can order bracelets that can be engraved with all the person's information. Then there are the alert bracelets that contact 911 for you.

My friend just out of the blue said "Wouldn't it be cool if you could text message 911?"

It made sense to me. Sometimes you could find yourself in a situation where actually talking on the phone could put you in danger, but sending a text message could save your life. She asked if I knew if you could do that, so of course I googled it.

I was amazed to see how many cities are trying to incorporate texting into their emergency systems. A few are even trying to incorporate picture messaging.

Imagine the possibilities. Say you can see a robbery in progress at a nearby location. How easy would it be to catch the robbers on camera?

Better yet, I've heard of some young women snapping photos of their dates when going on a date with someone new for the first time. They then send the photo to their friends, and the friends can use the photo if something goes wrong. Imagine taking a picture of a potential raper, and being able to send it to 911 before the actual raping could occur!

I think it's a great idea, and I would love to see text and picture messaging incorporated into all 911 emergency systems. It could save someone's life...just look at how text messaging helped students get word out during the Virginia Tech shootings.

Sandisk m230

If you've been looking for an mp3 player that won't make a huge dent in your pocket, let me introduce you to the newest member of my mp3 player collection.

I previously wrote about my Sandisk MX1, but I decided to upgrade to the Sandisk m230 when I found it for a great price. I picked up two of these little players for $20 from woot.com during a "two for Tuesday" sale. To me the price was well worth it.

The Pros:

The reason I chose the Sandisk m230 would be because of the controls. My previous Sandisk mp3 player has a very hard to use joystick control that doesn't want to navigate through menus correctly. The m230 uses button controls that are much easier to use without becoming frustrated.

The menus are easy to navigate as well because they are laid out nicely. You've got a ton of options that are easy to find.

The included FM tuner allows you to save up to 20 of your favorite stations, and the voice recorder allows you to record notes or sounds that you may want to listen to later.

The m230 plays MP3, WMA, DRM WMA (including subscription music), and Audible files. You can browser the music library by choosing title, artist, album, genre, spoken word, or recordings making it much easier to find what you want to listen to.

There is also an included stopwatch, and files can be added to the m230 via drag and drop or it is also compatible with Windows Media Player 10 and subscription services.

The Cons:

First of all the m230 is much bulkier than I had expected. It's almost double the size of my MX1, but it's still a decent size. I can still slip it into my pocket or throw it on a chain around my neck.

It's very noticeable that the mp3 player was made from cheap parts. I feel like it will crack in half if I accidentally drop it, and the battery door is very flimsy.

Although I don't consider this a con for myself, a lot of you may so it goes in the con category. The Sandisk m230 runs off 1 AAA battery instead of charging via usb. I prefer that because if my battery dies while I'm on the road can throw in another rechargeable.

A slight con to this model is the fact that the m230 is only a 512mb mp3 player.

The equalizer is lacking in options. You only have 4 pre-set options (Pop, Classical, Rock, and Jazz) and one custom option. I would definitely like to have seen more presets.

There is no option to view photos as the small size of the mp3 player and screen couldn't handle images.

Overall I still think this MP3 player is a good buy because it sells in a price range of $19.99-34.99. It's a much cheaper option than purchasing an iPod especially if you're looking for something for your children or for occassional use.

iOne Lynx-Q5 High Precision Gaming Mouse Review

A few months back I bought hubby a new mouse because he'd been complaining about how much he missed having a gaming mouse. I decided to pick up the iOne Lynx-Q5 high precision gaming mouse for him to use, and he's loved it.

I haven't really had a chance to use it since the day he took it out of the box, but I finally got around to testing it out myself today. I borrowed it to use with my new computer while he was at work, and since he didn't run home to play Battlefield I got in a little extra testing time. I can see why hubby loves this mouse, but honestly it's just not for me. Here is a list of the features.

Ok I see where this mouse has it's high points. I do like the 7 button design. You can easily scroll through websites while going forward or back with the click of a button. You can also control the scroll speed directly from the mouse with a quick click up or down without having to load your mouse settings via your computer to change them. The fact that you have a three-tier resolution of 400, 800, or 1600dpi that can easily and quickly be changed with just a click is also an added benefit.

The mouse really is a great mouse for the cost of around $14.95, but here's where I have a problem with it. The ergonomic design is nice, but it's not made for small hands. After a friend used hubby's computer I heard her complaining that his mouse was just too bulky and hard to use. After spending the day testing it out I have to agree. This mouse is made for larger manly hands. I know I'm a small woman, but the bulky design leaves me stretching my fingers to reach some of the buttons.

Informal Critique Rating? Stay away from this mouse if you've got smaller hands. I'll give it 4 stars for all the great features packed into the small price with just the one flaw.

Guitar Hero Fender Stratocaster Replica Controller Vs. Activision Guitar Hero Wired Controller

I know I've mentioned before that I love playing Guitar Hero. I've got Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II for the Playstation 2, but we've been saying for a long time that it's lacking a few things we would love to have like the ability to add vocals or play the drums. When we heard about Rock Band for the Xbox 360, we were extremely happy. A friend of ours purchased special edition that includes the drum set, guitar, and microphone, but we all agreed the set isn't enough for the full band. You really need 2 guitars if you want to play a full band, so hubby and I went out and bought the Activision Guitar Hero wired controller for Xbox 360. I have a very similar guitar for Guitar Hero II, so this is one I wanted to try.

The Fender Stratocaster replica that comes with the Rock Band special edition is very awkard for me. First of all, they changed the design of the fret buttons. Instead of having rounded button in the middle of the guitar neck, you now have full keys. This is awkward because you find yourself accidentally hitting the keys all the time. Slightly bumping the neck of the guitar can exit you out of the game or start something you don't want. On top of that, the size of the guitar is much larger and heavier.


Personally I don't like it at all. The start, directional pad, and Xbox buttons are all in a weird position as well. They sit at the bottom of the guitar under your whammy bar, and you accidentally bump them during play causing you to pause your game in the middle of a song.


Also you have to pretty much slam the bar to strum your notes, and even then sometimes it's still not hard enough to play the note. Also, the fret buttons have been changed. Before they were buttons centered at the top of the neck. Now the buttons span across the neck, and you can easily bump them sending you back to the main screen. The buttons also have a very awkward feel to them that's very uncomfortable during play.


After about 6 hours of use the guitar died, but thankfully Walmart was willing to exchange the guitar by itself without having to pack up the entire kit for exchange. We were hoping the new guitar would fix a lot of these problems with strumming and hitting the notes, but it didn't. My rating for the Fender Stratocaster replica? I give it a non rocking 0 out of 5 stars. It doesn't even work with Guitar Hero 3, so if you want to own both games you need to buy a separate guitar for each player instead of using the Rock Band guitar.


I hooked up the Activision Guitar wondering if it would be just as awkward, and it's not. I will never play with another guitar again. Because this one is designed like the old school Guitar Hero guitars your buttons aren't easily triggered accidentally. The buttons are also much softer, so you don't have to strike them very hard to play unlike the Rock Band guitar.


Also the Xbox button, directional pad, and start button are located at the base of the guitar, so you have no chance of accidentally hitting them and pausing your game during play. We've all had to learn to take turns playing with the Activision Guitar because everyone loves it, and no one wants to play with the Fender replica!


What's my ruling? If you're going to buy Rock Band, save yourself some cash by purchasing the Activision Guitar Hero wired controller instead of the Guitar Hero Fender Stratocaster replica if you need a second guitar for your band. You'll get much more enjoyment out of it, and you'll also save a few bucks. The only thing this guitar lacks is the specially designed solo switch that allows you to change your sounds during solos. Honestly if you play on hard mode like I do you most likely won't have time to worry about switching sounds anyway. You'll be too busy playing away. I give this guitar a rocking 5 out of 5 stars!

My New Phone: LG Voyager

I've found my next phone. Hubby and I have been talking about what to do in January when our new every two rolls around for Verizon, and we've been arguing over who gets the new phone. Well as usual it's going to be me. Hubby and I always argue over it because of course I always want the new phone, and I don't think he needs a new one. He thinks he should have the new one this year, but he's just too horrible with phones. He breaks one every couple months because he's always crushing them in his toolbelt, accidentally hitting them with his hammer at work, dropping them off a roof 3 stories up...he doesn't need a new phone!

It took a little bit of convincing, but I finally got hubby to see things from my point of view. I'm getting a new phone, and he's going to take my LG V9800, so he can have a keyboard type phone. He uses mine to text all of his friends already because he loves the keyboard so much. So do I, and that's why I'm upgrading to a newer model that still have a keyboard. I had considered upgrading to the enV because it's the newer model of my own phone, but now that LG has developed the Voyager, that's definitely what I'm getting.

The LG Voyager is very similar to both theV and the enV, but it's so much more. It still has the clam shell design with the large color screen and keyboard on the inside, but the Voyager also has a much larger outer screen that is touch screen like the expensive and very over rated iPhone. It supposed microSD cards up to 8 GB. My current 9800 only supports up to 2 GB. I was told it would support 4, but I've had no luck with cards bigger than 2 GB. Right now Verizon is only offering this phone for pre-order, but it should be releasing any day as it was said to release mid-November. It'll definitely be on the shelves by the time I upgrade my phone in January, and I so can't wait!

Yes I Need A Camera

I think I've finally decided what I want hubby to get me for Christmas. I told you I'm super indecisive, so I normally change my mind 10 or 15 times, but this time I'm going to tell him exactly what it is so he can buy it before I change my mind. I definitely want a new digital camera for Christmas. I've been whining about how badly I need one all year, so I can't think of anything I would rather have. Now I've just got to pick out which camera I want. I'd love to have a nice digital SLR, but that's going to be a little out of our budget. I've been looking at a couple of cameras that also take pretty good videos, so that could come in handy as well.

I really want a digital picture frame, too. I look at them every time I go to the electronics section in Walmart, and it would be so much easier to have a digital frame than to print my photos out every time I want to frame one. Maybe I can convince hubby to throw in a digital picture frame with my camera for Christmas. lol I don't think that's asking too much!

The Coolest Watch Of All

What do you buy for the DJ who has everything? That's exactly what my sister in law asked me yesterday. Her long time boyfriend is a DJ, and she wants to get him something related to that hobby, but he already has everything that comes to mind. I was looking on some DJ related sites this morning for her, and for myself because I haven't bought his present yet, and I found something that is just totally perfect for him. It's a DJ watch!

The specs say a battery is included, but I'd like to know what kind of battery it is. Do they make a lithium battery for watches?

i.Sound FM Transmitter Review

Let me start off by saying I was not paid to write this review. I did however receive a free i.Sound FM Transmitter from one of the companies for which I occasionally do surveys. I have participated in surveys for this company both online and offline for a couple of years, and I receive no monetary compensation. With that being said, I decided I wanted to write a review of the product I just received because I don't want anyone purchasing something that isn't worth it.

I received the iSound Wireless FM Transmitter that is universal for all mp3 players with a standard headphone jack. It also works with Sony PSP as well as any other audio devices such as cd players with a headphone jack. This transmitter doesn't plug into your cigarette lighter jack like most iPod transmitters. Instead it runs off a single AAA battery.



That's a good option for those people who don't have cigarette lighters in their cars. The outlet in my Saturn doesn't work, and my Isuzu Rodeo has no cigarette lighter, so this would be a good option. The packaging states that a battery is included, but there was no battery with my FM Transmitter. Luckily my Sandisk mp3 player also runs off AAA batteries, so I keep a supply of fully charged rechargable AAA batteries on hand. If you do prefer using DC 5V power, there is an input, but the adapter is sold separate.

There are 2 color choices, white or black. The device is very small, and I was able to slip it in my pocket with my mp3 player when I wasn't using it. Using it is very simple. Just plug the provided audio cable into the i.Sound and connect the other end to the headphone port on your mp3 player. Turn on the i.Sound and your radio, then tune your radio to one of the 5 presets on the i.Sound. You can switch between the presets with a simple switch allowing you to choose which channel gives you the most clarity.

I played around with all 5 channels for the best clarity, but honestly this item just wasn't up to my standards when it comes to FM Transmitters. I've used transmitters that produce a lot of static while I've also tested a few that give perfect clarity. This one falls somewhere in the middle. There was static, although I can admit not a whole lot. It mostly depends on where you place the transmitter in your vehicle. It will work up to 30 feet away from your car or home stereo, but I learned putting it directly in front of the stereo or anywhere near the antenna produces a large amount of static. I was able to place the transmitter and mp3 player in the pull out change drawer below my stereo, and it worked pretty well there.

Unfortunately all my testing was done in my driveway, so I'm not sure how it's going to work while driving. Other stereos, radio waves, or transmitters may cause interference when on the highway. Hubby just made a run to the store, so I sent the FM transmitter and my mp3 player with him to give it a test. I'll give you an update on how well it worked with him when he returns.

What's my bottom line with this transmitter? It works pretty well, but for a price of $24.99 I would recommend something else, especially for anyone using the iPod. I've used cheaper FM transmitters that have worked much better. I only recommend this i.Sound FM transmitter to someone who wants to use it with their home stereo or who doesn't have a cigarette lighter adapter in their vehicle.

**UPDATE** Hubby just returned and said he couldn't use the i.Sound at all while driving. When he could get the signal to come in it was very weak, but most of the time he couldn't use the transmitter at all. I would seriously recommend purchasing something else.

I've been playing around with a fun little program tonight. It's called Morpheus Photo-Morpher, and it's actually a fun little program to use. Basically this is a little software program you can use to Morph your photos into anything you like. I've seen people do this many times on TV shows, humor websites, and more, and I've always been interested in learning how to do it. We even used something like this in our high school graduation ceremony. We each submitted a baby picture of ourselves, and the school had all of those pictures morphed with our graduation pictures for a nice video presentation. It was cool to see how much we all still looked like our baby photos, but at the time I didn't know how to even attempt to do a photo Morph. Morpheus showed me that not only is it fun to do, but it's actually pretty easy as well. I didn't get to spend a lot of time messing with it tonight, but I'll be sure to Morph more photos soon. Here's the quick one I made as an example. I saved this one as an avi file, but you have many different photo and video options to choose from.

Although it took me a few minutes to figure the program out, it was pretty easy to use once I got into what I was doing. There's a wizard to help you set up your photos, and the wizard also gives you instructions on adding dots to your photos. The photos will morph depending on where you place your dots. You have to play around with the dots to get the photos to morph like you want them, but it's fun to see how different settings can change the photos. If you get lost, you can also check out one of the example morphs for examples of where to place your dots depending on the type of morph you're creating.

I'll definitely have to create another morph later with photos of hubby and our old dog Brutus. Not only did hubby love him to death, but everyone used to say they were the epitome of owners and dogs looking alike. Haha! I think I might also use this program to create a photo cd for my grandparents anniversary. I think the entire family would like to see photos of them throughout the years morphed together. It would be interesting to watch them change.
