New Word

I've decided to start learning a new word a day, and after a visit to the doctor today's word is sphygmomanometer.  What's just as weird as the word is that I can't believe I didn't know that particular word or the meaning.  What is it? A sphygmomanometer is a blood pressure monitor!  Between all the medical classes I've taken over the years (I mean, I was pre-med what time I spent in college) and all the issues I've had with my blood pressure with preeclampsia and stuff how did I not know that word?  Oh well, I know it now, and I guess that's what counts.
