Repairing The Laptop

I've got to go to Home Depot today to pick up my new soldering iron, so any of you that make jewelry or do any type of computer repair can look forward to a review. I'll tell you all about how the iron I get works once I pick it up and use it to repair my notebook computer.

I've been ordering parts for a couple weeks now, and I've finally got everything I need to repair the DC jack. The laptop belonged to a friend, and when the jack broke he tried to get a friend who didn't know what he was doing to repair it. Instead of properly changing out the jack the friend just soldered the ac adapter to the dc jack. Having that ac adapter hanging off the laptop left it open for more damage, and he ended up bumping into a wall and breaking the DC adapter off inside the AC adapter.

He brought the computer to me and said I don't want it anymore. If you can fix it you can have it. If not Ebay it for parts or something. It took me a few months to find the right parts, but I finally found the correct DC jack I need as well as the AC adapter tip. Finding that AC adapter tip was a life saver because it saved me from spending $60-100 on a new laptop charger.

Having the laptop is going to make a world of difference because I'll be able to blog "on location". There have been a ton of items at the bath and body store my mother in law works at that I want to review, and the owner promised to let me come in one day to sample a bunch of the products in the store. I can take my laptop with me and blog from the store as I try each product!
