About 3 years ago we decided to get rid of our land line phone. We didn't get rid of it because we wanted to go all cellular, but we felt we had no choice. There's definitely a story to why we ditched it.
The box for Bellsouth sits directly across from my driveway, but we live in a curve with a steep drop off on the other side of the road, so the box is much closer to the road than normal. Every single time the road crew comes through to cut the grass the box gets ran over and phone service gets knocked out for half of our road. We had our land line in this house for 6 months before I got fed up with calling the phone company every month about it.
As always they would tell us that the road crew was at fault, and the only way to stop it was to complain to SCDOT. I'd call SCDOT, but I'd always hear the same excuse. "We're sorry mam. We got a new guy cutting grass down there, and he just don't know where the box's at." It's the typical southern scapegoat. Blame it on the new guy! I just finally got so fed up with it that I canceled our service, but it didn't mean I got to stop calling every month. 3 years later I'm still the one who has to call Bellsouth when it gets knocked over because it's in front of my driveway. Half the time the phone box ends up IN my driveway.
This morning I'm on my way to call SCDOT again, but this time I'm not complaining about the phone. I'm complaining about my mailbox. Looks like I might want to check into getting a new one now and maybe something designed like cbu mailboxes so it's sturdier. My mailbox sits right next to the driveway on MY side of the road. Normally the road crew doesn't cut this side of the road through here because there's really not that much grass, and the homeowners on this side of the road normally cut it themselves when they cut their own grass.
Why I don't know, but the road crew decided to come down this side of the road, and they ended up cutting across my driveway and taking out my mailbox. Even worse the guy had to drive off the road into my yard because there's such a huge ditch on this side. He almost flipped the freakin' tractor coming into my yard and took out some of my monkey grass. Looks like somebody's going to be buying me a new mailbox, and they're going to get an ear full over my monkey grass!
