I know I've mentioned that I've spent a lot of time lately helping my best friend find a house. She's looked all over the place and dealt with a ton of real estate agents. It took her a few months, but she finally found a house she fell in love with. Everything was going great until this week. Actually everything was fine until the appraisal. The homeowners accepted her offer 2 days after they listed the house. Apparently they didn't think the house would appraise as high as they wanted, but when the appraisal was done the house is actually worth almost $15,000 more than the offer they accepted.
Now everything is going wrong. The current owners were supposed to fix the broken furnace. They said they did but it still isn't working. Then they raised the down payment by $4,000. They said they would replace the dry rotted garage door, but they have yet to do so. The house was supposed to close last Wednesday, but the closing has now been bumped up to this Tuesday since everything wasn't fixed like it was supposed to be.
I swear these people don't want to sell her the house now. They jumped too quickly to accept an offer now I think they're regretting the decision. It's almost like they're trying to drag things out until she backs out of it. That way they won't lose her deposit. I'm trying to be the good friend who keeps her spirits up about it all, but I really don't know what to say anymore. I really feel like she'd have better luck going to Caesars Palace with her entire year's salary.
